Grimsby Institute Wins The Copyright Licensing Agency Award for Excellence in Supporting Creativity at AoC Beacon Awards Ceremony

Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education (TEC Partnership) won a prestigious Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Award last week, specifically ‘The Copyright Licensing Agency Award for Excellence in Supporting Creativity.’

The AoC Beacon Awards celebrate the best and most innovative practices among UK colleges each year. The award, supported by the Copyright Licensing Agency, seeks to recognise and celebrate colleges who nurture and support creativity through the promotion and understanding of intellectual property; moreover, students are taught the value of their creative output and are given guidance on seeking fair remuneration once they enter employment.

The TEC Partnership received this award for its approach to displaying inventive and informative graphics across our campuses. These were designed by our wonderful graphic designer Lucy Fitzhugh and installed by the Estates Team. The graphics reflect our commitment to celebrating and promoting creativity in learners, while also providing them a unique and eye-catching place to study.

Emma Forrest-Leigh, Vice Principal at Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education said; “At the Grimsby Institute we understand that the spaces you learn and work in can affect the way you feel, the way you learn and subsequently the way you succeed. We go to great lengths to ensure that our spaces are inspiring, and we create spaces for people to thrive in. Across the campus we use signage to deliver some crucial information, and again by applying creativity we aim to reach a wider audience through commanding graphics that engage hearts and minds. As a creative team, working in collaboration with students, we are really proud of what we have achieved and having this national recognition is the icing on the cake. Creativity is a special spark that can enrich us all and is to be nurtured and encouraged. If we can inspire other places to harness creativity to enrich their spaces and signage, then we have a legacy to be proud of.”

Mark White, Chair of AoC’s Charitable Trust said: “The AoC Beacon Awards showcase exactly why colleges are so important to every community and why people value them. This award recognises examples of excellent practical teaching and learning. The work of the Grimsby Institute shows how important colleges are in providing students with the necessary skills for the real world.”
