Principles of Dementia Care – Level 2

The free distance learning Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Care course is suitable for candidates who wish to improve their knowledge and understanding of the condition of dementia, and of how to apply the principles of person-centered dementia care.

Course Details

You will study units such as dementia awareness, how to care for and support individuals with dementia, communication and interaction, administration of medication and behavioural context.

To complete the enrolment process, we are required to see proof of ID, such as a passport or driving license. We will also need to see either proof of earnings, such as a recent payslip (from within the last 3 months), or proof of benefits, such as a recent, full Universal Credit statement. This is so that we can check your eligibility for full funding.

These documents must be uploaded when completing your enrolment form.

On the free distance learning Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Care course, you will learn the following units:

  • Unit 1: Dementia awareness
  • Unit 2: The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • Unit 3: Factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
  • Unit 4: Equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
  • Unit 5: Administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
  • Unit 6: Behaviour in the context of dementia
  • Unit 7: Benefits of engaging in activities in social care

Due to the nature and course delivery of distance learning we require all applicants to hold a minimum of English Literacy Level 1 or equivalent. 

If you are between 19-23 years of age you must also have already achieved a full level 2 qualification (or higher) or 5 GCSE Grades A*-C/Grade 9-4.

We will require evidence of this in order to receive funding for you.

Each candidate is required to give written responses to questions, which will be submitted to a qualified script marker to assess. These responses can either be handwritten in the assessment booklets, typed using electronic templates, which are provided at induction, or typed using our fully online EQUAL platform. Candidates are issued with workbooks or online materials to assist with assessments.

You will be required to submit 3 assessments each taking 4 weeks to complete.

Upon completion, you will receive a paper certificate through the post.
