GRIMSBY INSTITUTE

Our Nuns Corner Campus, located in the centre of Grimsby, is the main provider of technical and professional training in the region. It provides a broad curriculum that encompasses full and part-time provision from 14 years onwards. The vast array of training options include further and higher education choices offering Apprenticeships, community provision, business training, work-based training and commercial activities. The Nuns Corner campus is home to the Engineering & Renewable Energy Centre, a £6-million Sports Centre and the Grimsby School of Art, a £4-million home for our Creative Arts courses.

Nuns Corner is also the home to the £20-million University Centre Grimsby that opened its doors in 2011 and offers a dedicated home for our higher education programmes. These are offered in partnership with the University of Hull, alongside our own suite of Foundation Degree programmes.

The TEC Partnership’s Nunsthorpe Community campus, located a short walk from the Nuns Corner campus, offers land based studies courses in Animal Care and Floristry.

The TEC Partnership is also the base for a large Workforce Development provision and for the Food Refrigeration and Process Engineering Research Centre. The Graduate Salon, our Hair & Beauty training salon, was recently named as the CIBTAC International Centre of the Year. Other accreditations include being a BBC Education Partner for Media. We have also achieved National Skills Academy status for Creative & Cultural Skills, Food Manufacturing and Environmental Technologies.

UNIVERSITY CENTRE GRIMSBY

Our University Centre Grimsby offers an impressive new landmark for Grimsby and North East Lincolnshire, offering everyone the opportunity to study higher education in world-class surroundings. The £20-million University Centre Grimsby opened its doors in 2011 and offers a dedicated home for our higher education programmes, offered in partnership with the University of Hull, alongside our own suite of Foundation Degree programmes.

The facilities inside the iconic new building include state-of-the-art lecture theatres, research facilities, clinical skills rooms, laboratories for science and sports physiology, computer suites, studios for television and radio broadcast and a fully licensed bar, The Corner Lounge, with the Atrium eatery offering delicious snacks and meals at your convenience.

All this is in addition to our existing campus amenities, which include a café and food outlets that offer a range of delicious hot and cold food, including our award-winning refectory.

Our campus shop has been relocated to larger premises and offers a range of publications, a book ordering services and a wide range of learning materials alongside confectionery, groceries, hot food and Costa Coffee.

There are three learning centres, with study rooms available. Furthermore, as we aim to make higher education accessible to all our communities, our award-winning childcare facilities on campus help make gaining a high quality education easier for everyone.

Scarborough TEC

Scarborough TEC is a college which understands and meets the needs of students and employers. The college’s service to students increases their opportunity to study programmes that are directly related to current and future labour market needs thereby supporting the regions vocational and technical skills requirements and the local economy.

Scarborough TEC includes dedicated facilities for the teaching of: construction, engineering, catering and hospitality, health and social care, arts and the media, business, enterprise and ICT, hair and beauty and many other technical and professional areas.

There is a firm emphasis on the development of flexible, higher level skills, which have been identified as a key requirement for the wider economy going forwards. Scarborough TEC also offers a wide range of apprenticeships and work-based training.

Scarborough TEC provides a clear line of sight to work and careers and it is our aim to put a relentless focus on quality in teaching and to do so in a high-quality environment so that we deliver an excellent outcome for every student, be that an apprenticeship, job, job promotion or place studying university level qualifications. Little Stars Day Nursery

Little Stars Day Nursery offers quality full-day childcare and early education for infants and preschoolers in a welcoming, inclusive setting. Established in 1986, the nursery has a longstanding reputation for excellent care. 

Based at the Grimsby Institute’s Nuns Corner campus, it is open year-round (closing only for bank holidays and the Christmas/New Year week) to serve college learners, staff and local families. Little Stars features age-specific playrooms and experienced early years staff, ensuring each child engages in appropriate learning and play in a safe, secure environment (the nursery employs robust security measures, from monitored entrances to fully fenced outdoor areas). 

The provision has been recognised as award-winning and maintains a positive Ofsted rating (graded “Good”) for its quality of education and care. Transafe Training

Transafe Training delivers a wide range of professional training programs in the transport, logistics and safety sectors. Based at the state-of-the-art MODAL Training Centre in Immingham (North East Lincolnshire), Transafe serves the wider region – including Grimsby, Immingham, Scunthorpe and beyond – with courses designed to meet industry standards and employer needs.

Offerings span LGV/HGV driver training (Category C and CE licenses), Driver CPC periodic training, ADR training for transporting dangerous goods and Transport Manager CPC qualifications, as well as accredited health & safety courses like NEBOSH and first aid. Training is delivered by industry-qualified instructors and the Modal facility features modern equipment such as a full-sized LGV driving simulator to enhance hands-on learning.

As part of the TEC Partnership’s network of education and training providers, Transafe works closely with local and national employers to ensure its courses align with current logistics and safety regulations. Prospective trainees and companies can benefit from Transafe’s flexible scheduling of courses (including skills bootcamps and bespoke training solutions) and its commitment to high-quality, practical training that promotes safety and compliance in the workplace.
